Dear Resstaurantuers, not everyone wants to embrace meat replacements. Some of us actually would rather explore the flavorful world of vegetables that are creatively infused with exotic herbs and seasonings. I myself am fully capable of cooking vegetables in a typical way using either a wok to stir fry or a double broiler as a steamer. Contrary to popular belief, a large majority of us do not wish to remove animal protein just to replace it with a food substance that has technologically evolved from a food lab. Here are the 5 reasons I avoid meat replacements.
1. Not Everyone loves Meat Replacements
I no longer crave the essence of meat. Eating meat is an experience that elicits all of your senses. From the pre-packaged raw piece of meat to the very sound and smell that rises as it cooks on the stove. As soon as it hits the pan it emanates a unique sizzle as it’s juices are infused with its fat and seasonings. These qualities are unique to meat. Or so I thought, food technology has become so advanced that meat substitutes can mimic every minute characteristic.
2. Meat Replacements do not equal Healthy
For some, this can serve as a familiar link to what was an essential part of someone’s lifestyle. Just think about it, meat is the main feature of practically every meal. Separating yourself from the familiar can be somewhat traumatic. It’s completely understandable to want to maintain a connection in some way form or fashion. No matter what you hold true as your personal motivation to transition away from eating meat, you must keep in mind that not every faux food is a healthy food.
3. Don’t Let meat alternative packaging lead you astray
Despite the narratives that are marketed to you regarding the healthiness of meat substitutes you must always do your due diligence to ensure that it is in fact safe. Don’t let package labeling lead you astray. Food manufacturers are required the list detailed ingredients. They can in fact, exercise discretion when it comes to specific health calms. However, there are exceptions and exemptions that can wave the requirements. Consequently, manufacturers can only be held accountable for their health claims if in fact a complaint is filed. Then and only than will the FDA conduct an full on investigation.
The list of the many health effects that can be sparked by eating meat is innumerable. Whereas eating live fruits and vegetables create an alkaline environment, which are essential elements to ideal health. This is one of the many reasons I elected to transition to a more plant-based lifestyle. So for me, there is no longing connection to continue to eat meat. I for one, have lost the desire for pork, beef, and chicken, and have no desire to hold on to meat experience even if is a meat alternative.
