5 Reasons Why You Should Remove Milk from Your Diet

For as long as I can remember I have never liked milk. From an early age there’s always been something about the taste and consistency that didn’t quite sit well with me. So I avoided it all costs. Throughout school, I would always opt for juice over the regular or flavored milk option. Although I had a general distaste for milk, I’ve always been an avid cheese and ice cream lover. This persisted throughout my adulthood until about four years ago when I was diagnosed with a shit-load of allergies.

Listen to Your Body

One of the main culprits was mold and fungus. In other words, the joy and pleasure I felt from eating cheese and ice cream was now replaced with pain, congestion, and sinus headaches. Needless to say this left me devastated. I felt as if my body had betrayed me. Aside from undergoing weekly allergy shots the only other intelligent solution was to stop eating dairy. In my mind this was not a viable option.

There was no way I was going to let allergies control what and how I ate. After some time pasted, I began to observe how I felt after I indulged and ate ice cream, cheese, and milk shakes. The truth was, I felt crapy. Every single time I rebelled, I experienced some of the worst sinus pain and pressure. The pain became so intense that I had to consistently take Ibuprofen.

Take an Active Role in Your Health

Finally I had enough, and decided to listen to my body and phase out diary. But first I did a little research. With research came a lot of questions. First off,  why do we eat dairy? and why is it a dietary necessity. Scientific studies are consistently validating the need. But why? How is it that we as humans must rely on another species for Vitamin D and other nutritients? Why is this an essential part of our diets?

Mother’s Milk is The Best Milk

In the circle of life women are the primary food suppliers to our babies. In some communities and traditions a woman can breast feed up to the age of 5. Through breast feeding, we as women are able to supply our children with all of the necessary food, vitamins, nutrients, and immunity that a child needs to grow. I can personally attest to this.

I breast fed my daughter up until she was 17 months. During this time she never had a cold, or an ear infection. This is a perfect example of how a mother’s milk can nourish and protect her child. Each mammal as the ability provide individualized food to her offspring. So herein lies the question why do we rely on another species for milk. Not only that, we continue to consume milk well into adulthood.

Like humans, cows milk is formulated to allow baby calfs to grow and thrive. Last I checked we are not baby cows. Typically human babies are born weighing any where from 5 to 8 pounds. Whereas, calfs are born with an average weight of 63.6 pounds. That is a dramatic weight difference.

The birth weight alone highlights the interspecies disconnect. This is the primary reason why milk is so highly processed and fortified with human specific vitamins and nutrients. Without the addition of antibiotics, hormones, and other additives it would not be “safe” for human consumption.

Nut Milk Alternatives

Luckily there are healthier nut milk alternatives. Nuts in of itself are filled with key nutrients including unsaturated fats, omega-3 fatty acids, fiber, protein, and vitamins. This alone makes it healthier than cow’s milk. It is also relatively easy to go from nut to milk. Simply pick your nut of choice; almond, cashew, walnut, or hazelnut.

Here are the 5 Reasons Why you should remove milk from your diet

1). Cows milk is for calves pure and simple.

There is no reason that we as humans should rely on another species for Vitamin D and nutrients.

2). Drinking milk that is not intended for humans can cause health problems such as allergies and lactose intolerance.

Lactose intolerance is the inability to process lactase after drinking milk or milk products resulting diarrhea, and gas. It is our bodies response to a foreign enzyme. Lactaid milk is not the solution. The human body is extremely intelligent as it provides us with symptoms to warn us against eating or drinking a particular food. If we do not heed the warning we could develop digestive discomfort and disease.

3) Mother nature has provided us with all we need to survive in the form of fruits, vegetables, and nuts.

We do not need to commercially farm cows for milk. We are two difference species that do not need to rely on each other to survive.

4) The medical and nutrition communities advocates for us to eat a well balanced meal including milk and diary products.

You need to be open minded to see past this societal norm. Challenge the norm. Educate yourself. Seek answers to why we as humans need to drink cows milk as an adult. If human babies are not breastfed past 5 why do we rely on cows milk as adults.

5) Milk is a key ingredient for many foods including cereal, baked goods, and oatmeal to name a few.

You can give up cow’s milk and still use healthy nut milk alternatives.
